De school achter de voordeur (The school behind the frontdoor)

Preconditions for learning such as language (dis)ability, internet access, spatial capacity, safety and stimulation do not exist in every household. When the schools had to close in march, parents became responsible for the education of their children. Many of them have had a negative experience with homeschooling during Covid-19. With this project I wanted to give these parents a space in which they could share their experiences and obstacles.

On Friday morning, November 27, I organized a workshop session with community house 'Thuis in West' in which five mothers came to talk about their experiences with home schooling. For the session I designed conversation tools that could make the talk visual. Using an illustrated 3D map of the neighborhood, we mapped out the place of living, the school and the obstacles of the parents around it. With these tools the conversation became visual for everyone. At the end we tried to find solutions in which the neighbourhood could help with their obstacles to also create equal opportunities outside the walls of school.
